The population of a Country is checked in ten year periods. This is called the census. Here, a census officer goes to every house within his or her jurisdiction and checks the number of people living there. Often you might notice his mark outside your house.
Also, this is tabulated with the birth certificates issues and the death certificates issued too. This id a person with a birth certificate also has a death certificate, then his name is struck out of the population. However, a person with only a birth certificate issued in his name is still considered a prt of the population.
Also if a person migrates to another country, then his certificate of citizenship which is hand in hand with a birth certificate is contested with that of the other country. The citizen may then choose which country to live in. This is also done in the case of immigrants.
