In videos being scaled up, we see scaling artifacts that we think are due to a lack of interpolation. When scaling the video by 100 percent there are no artifacts, same with 200 percent and so on. But when scaling up by an arbitrary percentage value (whatever value we need so the video reaches the desired dimensions) we get artifacts such as cut-off or repeated pixels (most noticeable with text). Why is this happening? Inside the flash player we are using the standard embed video object and loading flv files into it. When using the Media Playback component, similar artifacts appear on arbitrary scalings (scaling by tenths is also fine). We are using one-pass FLV 1 h.263 derivative encoding standard for Flash 7. Uploading the same video to youtube and viewing youtube with a flash 7 player does not show these same artifacts. What are we doing wrong? The only constraint we have is that we're using flash 7. Rails has two methods that utilize streaming (send_data, send_file) I've modified this to meet my needs, along with the help of people on the mailinglist. However the code below which should work, does not provide output streaming. I know in the past output streaming has worked within rails, I am wondering if in a current release it has been broken. Whatever the case is, I need to determine why I cannot get the output streaming mechanism in rails to work. I'm using lighttpd on fc5. From what I've gathered there shouldn't be much difference in implimentation between those two platforms. I have already gotten ffmpeg to do this compression on both platforms. The question now is how to do that through Transcode. Ideally the response would be in the form of a line of code or a short script, but if an explanation is enough to get me up and running I'll consider that a succesful answer. I may raise it if it proves difficult :) Description: System: Thinkpad T41, intel ipw2100, Ubuntu Dapper (6.06). Everything was fine a few months ago in Hoary and in Breezy. I'm not 100% sure the problems started happening with Dapper, but the timeline fits. The issue is that the wireless network normally works fine for a while (anywhere from 2 minutes to a couple hours), then, out of the blue, I suddenly can't establish any connection to any other hosts, or ping them. Right after the failure, 'iwconfig eth1' reports that I'm associated to my AP (linksys wrt54gc, the essid is 'daigle' and there's no encryption, not that that makes any difference in the occurence of this problem), with a connection quality of around 85%, standard for my apartment. 'ifconfig eth1' reports that I still have my DHCP-assigned IP, in the 192.168.1. subnet. At this point I can't establish any TCP connections, nor can I ping anything on my LAN. It gets interesting though: I can kill any running dhclient processes and restart one (or do an ifdown / ifup, which does a release followed by a renew), and I apparently get a DHCPOffer. I get my IP back, meaning somehow broadcast packets are going through, but I still can't connect to anything. So I downloaded an undelete program and it found the file, although it was zero bytes in length. however, there were two other files found in the same cluster as the zero length file. These two files were big, but the program could not undelete them because they were assigned to another file. I'm hoping the data can be recovered somehow, but it would most likely require knowlege of the motif synthesizer pattern file format. It's important to me to recover these files.
